Leon is a Mercedes Sprinter 311 with a turbo charged 2.15l diesel engine which gives him a lot of umph. In a former life he was a courier van which clocked up most of the miles. We have taken the high mileage into account in the price, which for the spec of the conversion is low.
I bought Leon fully converted in 2016 solely to rent it out. Rentals have been great year round and he is particular popular for longer winter trips around the UK and festivals in the summer probably because of the shower and toilet.
Why sell? we need the money to fund a new project; a 6 berth family campervan (we now have 3 kids so can’t use Leon ourselves).
Last full service was in September 2019 and the MOT was done 10th Jan 2020 so comes with a full year.
MOT: Till January 2021
Engine Size: 2.15 litres
Fuel Efficiency: 30mpg
Body work: Professional spray paint job featuring forest scene. There are some small areas of flaking paint and rust patches as would be expected in a vehicle of this age. Please see honesty shots in listing. The bumpers and below were resprayed in December 2019 with stone chip resistant paint so it’s all looking smart and tidy.
Leon is a sleek and spacious off-grid campervan. He is fully self contained and therefore ideal for Covid Secure travel with no need to share facilities.
I know from experience that a conversion of this specification is worth upwards of £15k so when I saw Leon on ebay in 2016 for less than that I jumped at the chance. I figured that even if I had to replace the engine it would still be worth a good deal. I also knew that the original converter had wanted £25k for Leon in 2015 because that’s what it had cost him to build and he had to sell it fast. Since then I have made some upgrades to the interior (bigger bed) and body work (paint job) and added some miles to the clock (25k).
Leon has an underslung LPG tank which is unbelievably cheap to refill and lasts for months. This runs a Propex gas heater for heating the space, a propex water heater for washing up and shower and a two hob gas cooker.
There is also a large (70l) underslung freshwater tank which supplies both sinks, the shower and the water heater via a pressure controlled pump. There is a waste tank (also 70l) but I have disconnected the sinks and shower because customers forget to empty. So some flexy pipe and jubilee clips will be needed if you want to reconnect but it works fine without.
For refrigeration there is a nearly brand new 50l Dometic Compressor fridge (I swapped out the 3-way because they are not customer friendly). This is hooked up to a leisure battery which is charged from two solar panels on the roof or the engine (when driving) via a split charge relay. There is also a battery charger, 240v hookup and 240v sockets internally but to be honest it’s not really necessary unless you are staying still for longer periods of time in the winter time.
For sounds it just the factory fitted FM radio and CD player
There are couple of usb sockets and lights are pull cord for the wall lights or touch for the ceiling lights (which are also dimmable).
There is storage under the bed accessible via 2 large drawers, several spacious cupboard including one with a hanging rail and accessible from the rear doors is an additional storage area.
2020 season has been blocked off since September so there are no upcoming bookings but if you want to rent him out he has a listing on Quirky that is pretty much ready to go.
If you are thinking about continuing to rent him out in 2019 he booked 84 nights bringing in £7.5k, in 2018 that was 77 nights and £6.5k. Income will vary depending on your location, photos and what else is available around you.
Leon is a great campervan and ideally suited to solo traveller or couple of any age. He can also accommodate 2 adults and child up to around 6 years old.

Leon has a Superking (204cm x 152cm) bed to accomodate 2 people plus optional fold-up children’s camp bed (150cm long) which fits on the floor space (or the mattress from it can be used across the front seats)
