Conversion Story

Tiki is a Swift Kon-Tiki which, when launched in the mid 80s, were the envy of every camper and caravan owner on a campsite. It was everything that was good about the 1980s - a luxury yacht on wheels. With its low profile moulded GRP body and wide axle chassis, the Kon-Tiki looked nothing like any other motorhome of the time.

Tiki was bought new in 1990 by a motorhome hire company and was very well maintained from the get-go, although when we bought her in 2016 her interior was in a bit of a state. We refurbished her with a new wooden floor, new seat foam, beautiful modern vinyl seat covers and all of her luxury features brought back to their former glory.

Tiki has 6 berths (three large doubles), hot and cold running water, a separate bathroom with hand basin, shower and flushing toilet. In the galley Tiki has an oven, grill, three burner hob, a three way fridge, hot and cold running water and large draining board. In the dinette she can seat six in comfort with the extending leaf table. Tiki even has a cocktail cabinet with wine bottle and wine glass holders and an ice box - entertaining is Tiki's speciality!

Tiki has lots of windows which make her perfect for pulling up next to that sunset and relaxing in her comfy couches after a sumptuous culinary creation.

Tiki has a 3 double beds (overcab has low roof) which accommodates:

  • 4 adult(s)

Tiki has a three burner hob, a grill and an oven which has been used to cook a Sunday roast in the past! For storing food, Tiki has a three-way fridge - it works on mains electricity whilst on a campsite with 240V mains, on gas if you are parked up on a remote site (van must be level) and on 12V when the vehicle is running.
Tiki has a large 100 litre water tank which is fine for drinking from (provided you filled it up with drinking water).

Tiki's 'galley' is huge and is perfect for those who like to cook - or those who are forced to cook (with children!)

Where is Tiki?

Tiki lives in Beautiful Canford Cliffs, the neighbouring suburb to Sandbanks in Poole, Dorset. Poole is very easy to get in and out of from London or the Midlands and North, being only a two hour drive from the M25/M3 junction.

Under special arrangement Tiki's owner can pick up hirers from Parkstone railway station which is only 2 hours from London Waterloo, and meet you with Tiki so you are ready to go on your adventure!

On picking up Tiki, you really do not have to go more than thirty miles to have an amazing two week holiday. There are so many wonderful places and Poole is an excellent hub to explore them from.

Immediately nearby are the stunning beaches of Sandbanks and of course Poole harbour which is the second largest natural harbour in the world after Sydney. In Poole harbour is Brownsea Island, operated by the National Trust, which makes a great day out red squirrel spotting.

Take the chain ferry over the mouth of the harbour and you are in pristine Studland nature reserve with long white sands, sand dunes and oodles of history. Behind the Bay lies the mysterious Agglestone Rock and beyond that the Purbecks with Old Harry rocks being the seaward extreme of the Purbeck hills. Mid way through the Purbecks is Corfe Castle which is a spectacular castle framed by the Purbecks.

From Corfe you can catch the steam train to Swanage for the day and visit the beautiful Durlstone Castle and south west coast path. The Jurassic spectacular coast starts here: spend the day fossil hunting at Kimmeridge or Chapmans Pool, swim under Durdle Door and visit Lulworth Castle. Use the camp sites around Corfe Castle as your base, including the fabulous Burnbake campsite which is like staying at a mini festival.

Let's not forget the East of Poole - you have the wonderful New Forest with its abundance of camp sites and you can use Lymington or Southampton as your gateway to explore the Isle of Wight!

From Poole you have the Brittany ferries 'Barfleur' that sails to Cherbourg and the Condor fastcat that does the same and also goes to the Channel Islands.

Travelling with Children

Tiki is suitable for travelling with children.

Tiki is perfect for travelling with children. Four children can be seated in the dinette area on large comfy seats with lap belts and a table to play on whilst you travel. The large window next to these seats ensures that they can see out and not get travel sick. When you pull up to make food, the children can play in the oodles of space inside the van. Children will play for hours making dens up in the overcab double and they love relaxing and reading on the large rear couch. Tiki has board games and colouring and crafting stuff to keep everyone busy.

Tiki has a bike rack which can take three bikes upto 50kg but could take four little ones bikes - supply your own or hire from Tiki's owner. Sit back and relax whilst your kids cycle around campsites and make new friends.

At night Tiki has a wealth of options to cater for 'staggered bedtimes'. Very young children can be put to bed at any time and sectioned off in the rear area by the large dividing curtain, which with the blackout blinds can make the area dark. Or you can do the same in the large double above the cab. The overcab bed is a king size but it has a low roof that may not suit the claustrophobic. It has a ladder that then stows in place to create a barrier to stop the bed occupants from falling out. It's perfect for children. The dinette converts into either a double or a wide single as required.

Feeding times for your young ones are easily accommodated by using the 4 or 6 seater dinette - booster seats can easily be added here. Of course preparing children's food is a breeze in Tiki, you have everything that you have at home except a microwave. In terms of keeping kids clean, Tiki has hot water and a shower and toilet - all on hand to be used at any time.

Pet Policy

We have a ‘don’t ask don’t tell’ policy with pets. In other words we’re happy for you to take your dog as long as you bring it back in a condition that we never would have known!

European Travel

Yes you can take Tiki across the water but there will be an additional charge to cover EU insurance and EU breakdown. This will vary but we expect it to be around £70 per week.
