About the area: Astrid is situated at our home in Stockport, Greater Manchester. Stockport is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, 7 miles south-east of Manchester city centre, where the River Goyt and Tame merge to create the River Mersey. Ideally located just a short distance from major transport routes. The Manchester orbital M60 motorway and A6 road to London cross at Stockport. Stockport railway station is a mainline station on the Manchester spur of the West Coast Main Line. Stockport is connected with Central London by Virgin Trains with services departing every twenty minutes and also has inter-city services to Sheffield, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol and other major cities. The stations is located 2 miles away, approximately an 11 minute drive. Manchester Airport, the busiest in the UK outside London, is only 5.5 miles away. Easily reached by car, taxi or public bus.
Cooking Equipment: A Smev 2 ring gas hob with stainless steel sink and tap supplies your cooking and water facilities. Instant hot water from the LPG water heater and drains into the underslung grey water tank. With built in glass backsplashes it sits flush into a solid beech worktop with a handy fold-down extendable shelf at the far end. All kitchen utensils are provided including, dining plates and bowls, cutlery and crockery, pots, pans and the all important stove top kettle!
Water Facilities: We created a good-sized shower that also doubles as the loo (with brand new Porta Potti available) and installed a 6 litre LPG water heater providing instant hot water. No waiting around for tanks to heat up, hop in and hose off with piping hot water on demand. This is fed from the fresh water tank in the garage and drains into a 65-litre grey water tank beneath the vehicle. Simply turn a nozzle when you need to empty the tank and drain.
Type of Heating: An 8kw diesel blown air heater will keep the interior snug and warm in even the coldest of climates operating in temperatures down to -40c. This is fed directly from the fuel tank and has an LCD display control panel with a timer function. The fuel line for the heater has been set up to leave 15 litres of fuel in the tank to prevent accidental drainage.
Conversion Story: This is a fresh new conversion, professionally completed by SSL Conversions of Hampshire. The theme of this conversion is to connect you to nature wherever you decide to park up. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Forests of Scandinavia, we opted for a conversion using softwood pine cladding to give a natural forest feel. To compliment the real wood interior the kitchen worktop and dining table are both made from solid beech. The layout is designed to make the best use of the space available and incorporate all the creature comforts to camp for long periods of time away from sites, while not losing focus on what camping is all about, the great outdoors.
